Professional Development

A unique opportunity for Professional Development

Discovering Local Shared Ministry in the Diocese of Auckland

The Auckland Diocese is the largest in New Zealand – with a population in excess of 1.5 million.

There are 87 ministry units throughout the diocese, of which 14 are established in Local Shared Ministry, with several others currently exploring this model.

The Diocese extends from the top of the North Island down the to the Coromandel Peninsula in the south, and includes some of the most attractive tourist spots in the country. The Auckland Diocese is committed to developing, supporting and sustaining ministering communities of faith.

We believe that our diocesan statute for Local Shared Ministry, the appointment of a Bishop’s Chaplain to co-ordinate this ministry, and a professional team of diocesan Enablers are integral components of this.

We offer a variety of professional development opportunities each year which are open to people from around New Zealand and overseas.

These include:

  • A short course (AMEND) introducing the theology and culture of Local Shared Ministry
  • In-service training course (one week usually held in July/August) for people wishing to train as Enablers
  • Field trips to LSM congregations
  • Local Shared Ministry Conference (usually held at the end of November each year)
  • Reflective conversations with the diocesan team of Bishop’s Chaplain and Enablers.
